A doodle for the World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health.

In Spain, the associative movement of people with mental illness and their relatives and friends supports this Day with the purpose of claiming appropriate social and health cares for people with mental health problems, contributing to the social awareness about taking care of our mental health, and defending the rights of people affected by a mental health disorder.

Mental health problems are found in people of all ages, regions, countries and societies. In fact, one in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted on 13 December 2006 “to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity”. The Convention specifically reflects the persons with disabilities include those “who have long-term mental impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others”.

Nevertheless, “nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a health professional”. “Stigma, discrimination and neglect prevent care and treatment from reaching people with mental disorders”, says the World Health Organization (WHO).

Taking all this into account, we call on Google to make on 10 October a special Doodle for World Mental Health Day and help us raising awareness of mental health.   Subscribe to the petition
