Setting up a helpline

Volunteer-resourced emotional support centres have been identified as playing a crucial role in the provision of effective services. They respect the rights of users by providing confidential, non-judgemental and caring support. 

Each emotional support service is part of this global effort, and to be effective needs to take into account the wider context within which operates, whether at a local, national, regional or international level.
This will ensure a strategic approach, which in turn will help bring recognition and credibility with local formal structures and professionals, other partners and users themselves. 

A step-by-step guide for setting up and running an emotional support service has been produced by the partners of ESA. It takes into account all elements, from understanding your local needs to working with your available resources.
